La nuit est sombre et l'étang bruisse de secrets indicibles, confessions animales et mystères organiques. A l'heure inquiète des esprits, deux formes blanches ont passé que suivait un génie malin. La première noyée dans l'écho de son chant tenait par la main la seconde au timbre de métal. Le troisième tissait sur le bois de son rouet une toile mouvante aux reflets électriques. A peine avaient-ils passé la ligne des marais qu'ils perçurent le tumulte des bacchanales.
