Impulsée par Gérard de Haro, des studios et du label La Buissonne, qui caressait depuis longtemps l’idée de voir réunis deux musiciens qu’il a très souvent accueillis et dirigés et qui ont tant de fois provoqué en lui “un émerveillement” mais qui n’avaient jamais joué ensemble, la rencontre entre Vincent Courtois et Bill Carrothers n’aurait pu avoir lieu sans la confiance que les musiciens accordent depuis si longtemps à l’ingénieur du son. “Si l’idée n’avait pas été la sienne, je ne pense pas que j’y aurais répondu favorablement” confesse Vincent Courtois.
Quelques minutes après la rencontre dans l’écrin de La Buissonne, qui a été méticuleusement préparé pour eux, Courtois et Carrothers se lancent dans une improvisation habitée et mélancolique qui donnera son titre à l’album. Le temps d’une journée “haute en émotion”, le duo - rejoint par le saxophoniste baryton Éric Seva - alterne des compositions originales, des standards de jazz (“Deep Night”, “Isfahan”) et un classique de Joni Mitchell (“Circle Game”) et le tout est encadré par deux interprétations en miroir du “Água & Vinho” du Brésilien Egberto Gismonti.
Le résultat est “une musique de fulgurance et de quête”, dixit De Haro. Une parenthèse toute en subtilité et en naturel, qui deviendra à n’en pas douter un jalon dans les discographies respectives de Carrothers et Courtois.

Gerard de Haro, from la Buissonne recording studio, had long cherished the idea of bringing together 2 musicians he had often welcomed and directed as they had so often awakened in him a feeling of ‘ Wonder’ but who had never played together. So he gave the impetus to the meeting between Vincent Courtois and Bill Carrothers and this could not have taken place without the confidence these musicians have given to the sound engineer for such a long time. “If the idea had not been his I don’t think I would have responded favourably “ Vinvent Courtois confesses. A few minutes after the meeting in la Buissonne studio, which had been meticulously prepared for them, Courtois and Carrothers launch into both a lively and melancholic improvisation that will give the album its title. During a day high in emotion, the duo, joined by baritone saxophonist Eric Seva, alternates between original compositions, jazz standards( “Deep Night”, “ Isfahan”) and a Joni Mitchell classic ( “Circle Game” ) and the whole is framed by two mirrored interpretations of“Agua & Vinho” from the Brazilian Eberto Gismonti. The result is a “music of fulgurance and quest “, according to De Haro. A subtle and natural interlude which will undoubtedly become a milestone in Carrothers’ and Courtois’s respective discographies.
